Indigenous People’s Day: Vaccine Hesitancy Within Tribal Communities

Social and Racial Justice

To honor Indigenous People’s Day Those Nerdy Girls would like to ACKNOWLEDGE the understandable occurrence of vaccine hesitancy within tribal communities due to hundreds of years of broken treaties and medical tyranny like forced sterilization.

We would also like to CELEBRATE that in the context of this justified mistrust, tribal communities have overcome some of this hesitation toward vaccination using these guiding principles as motivators.

They:
1️⃣ Recognize how actions will impact the next 7 generations.
2️⃣ Act in honor of ancestors who fought to ensure their survival and elders who carry on their traditions and cultures.
3️⃣ Hold on to ancestral knowledge in the ongoing fight to protect Mother Earth.
