A: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that kids aged 6 months to 4 years old that got the original Moderna vaccine for the primary series get an updated Moderna booster and that kids in this age group that got the original Pfizer vaccine for all three doses of the primary series get an updated booster dose.
▪TL; DR: As of 12/09/22, an updated Moderna booster became available for children aged 6 months–4 years who completed the 2-dose Moderna COVID-19 vaccine primary series. As of 03/17/23, an updated Pfizer booster became available for children aged 6 months–4 years that received the original Pfizer vaccine for all shots in the 3-dose primary series.
▪️ Children aged 4 months to 6 years who received 2 doses of the original Moderna vaccine, can get an updated Moderna vaccine for their booster dose.
▪️ Kids in this age group that got the original Pfizer vaccine for all three doses of their primary series, are now recommended to get an additional dose with the updated Pfizer vaccine.
▪️ Those 6 months to 4 years old that received two doses of the original Pfizer vaccine and then got the updated vaccine for the 3rd dose of the primary series are not recommended to get another updated Pfizer dose at this time.
