Is a 2nd COVID 2024-2025 vaccination recommended for me?

Infectious Diseases Vaccines

This 69-year-old Nerdy Girl and her husband just received their second vaccine ahead of an upcoming international trip.
If you are 65 years and older or 6 months and older and moderately or severely immunocompromised, the CDC recommends a second dose of the 2024-2025 COVID vaccine.

Here’s what to know:

For those 65 years and older –

🔸 You are recommended to receive 2 doses of any 2024–2025 COVID-19 vaccine (i.e., Moderna, Novavax, or Pfizer-BioNTech) 6 months apart (minimum interval 2 months) regardless of vaccination history.

🔸One exception to the above: If you are unvaccinated and start vaccination with the 2024–2025 Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine, you are recommended to receive 2 doses of Novavax followed by a third dose of any COVID-19 vaccine 6 months (minimum interval 2 months) later.

For those who are 6 months and older and moderately or severely immunocompromised –

🔸If you are unvaccinated, you need a multidose initial series with the proper COVID-19 vaccine based on your age and an additional dose 6 months (minimum interval 2 months) after completion of the initial series; you may receive additional doses based on a joint decision between you and your trusted clinician.

🔸If you previously completed the multidose initial series with the proper COVID-19 vaccine based on your age and an additional dose 6 months (minimum interval 2 months) after completion of the initial series, you may receive additional doses based on a joint decision between you and your trusted clinician.

If you have any questions about receiving a 2nd dose of the vaccine, reach out to your clinician or pharmacist for guidance.

Stay safe. Stay well. Stay Nerdy! And stay protected from COVID-19!
