Pfizer vaccine news! Is it really OK to hope?!

Vaccines

A: Yes. We’ve been out to sea in a hellish storm. Yesterday, the faint dimmer of the lighthouse came into view.

Pfizer has announced that early data from its pivotal vaccine trial looks good. So good, in fact, that this Nerdy Girl (Lindsey) cried upon reading the headline. TL;DR on the data read-out: There is a very strong signal that the vaccine works, with no indication of safety concerns.

What’s next? We’re still fighting through a storm, and there’s a lot of choppy water yet to navigate. The waiting game ahead will involve:

➡️ Waiting for the rest of the Pfizer data to come in

➡️ Waiting for other vaccines’ clinical trials to ramp up and report out

➡️ Waiting for manufacturing to scale up

➡️ Waiting for widespread distribution

Each of these steps has its own set of fraught complications (see articles below for specifics). And as we all know, “the way – ay – ting is the hardest part.” But we have tools to keep us safe and sane while we wait it out. We’ll stay SMART. We’ll amplify evidence-based information. We’ll stay connected. It’s rough out there, but there’s hope on the horizon.

Love,
Your Nerdy Girls
