These are dark days – literally and figuratively – but here at Dear Pandemic we see great hope ahead. We salute all #WomenInSTEM who are brightening prospects for the New Year…
➡️ SCIENTISTS such as Dr. Kizzy Corbett at the NIH, who Dr. Fauci praises as being “at the forefront of the development of the [Moderna] vaccine.”
➡️ PUBLIC HEALTH HUMANITARIANS, such as Lillie Tyson Head and Carmen Head Thornton, whose commitment to “moving from trauma to triumph” in honoring the legacy of those deceived into the Tuskegee syphilis study is a model of bravery, love, and grace.
➡️ GOVERNMENT LEADERS such as Germany’s Angela Merkel, whose “off-the-cuff explanations of epidemiological concepts have been a joy,” according to the (superb!) science writer Hilda Bastian.
We’re kicking off 2021 inspired by a mash-up of wisdom from Taylor Swift and Beyonce: “This is a new year…. Let’s make it ours.”
