A: While we know that the effects of quarantine, isolation, and stay at home orders can be challenging, it is not a given that we will all develop mental health issues. A bit of optimism….the latest research tells us this:
-We all respond differently, so we cannot assume that some of us won’t be resilient and experience growth during this time.
-We thought that there would be a huge uptake in mental health services and prescriptions for mental health concerns, but we don’t yet have the evidence to support this.
-Certain groups are thought to be more vulnerable to mental health concerns, stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue such as first responders, new parents, and youth. The good news is that models such as peer support can be highly effective in supporting high risk groups.
