Dr. Vijaya Knight graduated from Mysore Medical College, University of Mysore, India, followed by a residency in Neuromicrobiology and Immunology, National Institutes for Mental Health and Neurosciences, India. She then obtained a PhD in Immunology from Melbourne University, Australia, followed by 3 years of postdoctoral work at the University of California, San Francisco, studying immune evasion by M. tuberculosis in human macrophages. She then spent 2 years as a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation fellow at UCSF, working on T cell regulation in models of autoimmune disease. Dr. Knight then transitioned to the biotechnology industry and spent a couple of years as a translational research scientist and was involved in biomarker discovery and development and immune monitoring for clinical trials.

Dr. Knight headed the Advanced Diagnostic Immunology and Flow Cytometry laboratories at National Jewish Health from 2008-2018 and was an Assoc. Professor in the Department of Medicine. In June of 2018, she joined the Dept. of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and established the Translational and Diagnostic Immunology and Allergy Laboratory at Children’s Hospital, Colorado. Dr. Knight has been involved for many years in the development of new diagnostic tests for patients with immune deficiency and autoimmune conditions, as well as the development of immune monitoring tools for clinical trials. She is passionate about teaching and has spent many years teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, residents and clinical fellows. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family, reading, cooking and dabbling in a variety of arts.
